My list of 100 things about me

I have a great friend who writes a lovely blog. She has wonderful ideas for blog posts and this is one that I am borrowing from her. I started writing this in January. It is a list of 100 things about me. I assume that she was challenged to write the list. I wasn't challenged so I know this is really self-indulgent but, oh well. I had written most of the list when the "25 random things about me" lists became really popular on Facebook. I thought, "25 random things, I have 100 random things!" Anyway, here it is.

1. I am terrible about writing thank you notes/Christmas cards.

2. I love sushi.

3. I enjoy watching movies but not as much as I used to.

4. I have attended the Sundance Film Festival 12 times. This is the first year I have not gone. I keep a Sundance journal and it is one of my prize possessions.

5. My favorite music groups/singers are the Beastie Boys, Prince, Pink Floyd, Dido, No Doubt, Madonna and others…

6. My favorite movies are (in no particular order) The Goonies, Home for the Holidays, Just Friends, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Maverick, Oceans Eleven, Say Anything, French Kiss, The Wedding Singer, Grosse Pointe Blank, A Christmas Story, The Big Lebowski, Fletch, Dumb and Dumber, Tommy Boy and others…

7. I HATE being cold. I dread Utah winters because they just go on and on. AND ON.

8. My favorite vacation spot is San Francisco. I have been there three times. The first was to see the comedian Eddie Izzard, the second was on our honeymoon and the third was to see the Beastie Boys in Berkley. These are some of my very favorite memories.

9. I have a daughter named Abby who is amazing.

10. I tend to laugh when I’m nervous. Like once when Fluke was getting wheeled away for surgery. I’m sure everyone thought I was nuts. Ha Ha…good luck with that abdominal surgery, totally hilarious!

11. I rarely like photographs of myself.

12. I have very healthy hair. It is shiny and grows fast. Sadly it is quickly graying.

13. I married into a very large family and I love when it gets crazy when everyone is there and there are tons of little people underfoot. (Children obviously, not little people.)

14. I teach 3rd grade. It’s the perfect age to teach.

15. I want an iphone.

16. I like reading other people’s blogs. I wish all my friends and family had one. Hint hint.

17. I am not good at grammar/punctuation/spelling but I’m working on it.

18. I planned on being a filmmaker but I also always felt a pull toward teaching.

19. I have the ticket from every concert I’ve been to.

20. My two favorite sounds are the THX sound at the beginning of a movie:
Here starting at 11 seconds and the sound made when you pop your fingers under water with your head also under water. Try it the next time you’re at the pool.

21. I cannot seem to ever get enough sleep.

22. I love to try new food but don’t do it often enough.

23. I think Carters makes the best children’s clothing.

24. I collect children’s books.

25. My favorite TV shows are (in no particular order) Ugly Betty, Lost, How I Met Your Mother, 90210 (the new one, yes I’m a nerd), Gilmore Girls, Psych, Pushing Daises, Sex and the City, The Office, 30 Rock, My So Called Life, Rosanne, Seinfeld, Flight of the Conchords and others…

26. I have a love/hate relationship with breastfeeding/pumping.

27. I voted for Obama.

28. I am a Canadian citizen and an American citizen.

29. I’ve been to 26 states, two Canadian provinces and England.

30. I like all kinds of music but pop is my favorite. If it has a good beat and I can dance to it while driving, I’m into it.

31. My favorite color is Kelly green. Lucky thing I worked at Starbucks for two years. And Hastings for six. Green aprons and all…I am no longer allowed to buy any green clothing.

32. I think of myself as a funny person.

33. I have 16 nieces and nephews with one more on the way.

34. I currently only wear Smartwool brand socks.

35. I enjoy British comedy. Fawlty Towers is my favorite.

35. I have to put my feet up on the seat in front of me at the movies to get comfortable.

36. I love that I am sarcastic.

37. I think puns are funny.

38. I listen to the radio show Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me every week and have seen it live twice. (It’s better on the radio.)

39. My current favorite drink is Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi or Pepsi Gold as I call it. (They recently changed the can from gold to white but Pepsi White just doesn't have the same ring.) I tried to not drink caffeine while pregnant/nursing and kind of got addicted to it.

40. I have to force myself to drink water. It must have ice in it and a straw if possible.

41. I have a milk “thing.” Not sure if it’s an allergy but it makes me sick. I still consume milk products daily. Now that I know what was making me sick, I just deal with it.

42. I LOVE playing games and am competitive but I try not to be a sore looser. I said I TRY.

43. I give high fives.

44. I twist my hair and tie it in slip-knots with one hand. Always have.

45. I worry a lot about miscarrying a future child.

46. My favorite book is Bridget Jones’s Diary.

47. I hate apostrophes. I have a hard time remembering where they go and I have to look it up when teaching possessives. (See Bridget Jones’s Diary above. Had to look that one up.)

48. I steal the blanket every night.

49. I wasn’t allowed to have bare feet as a child. (I need to ask why. I have no idea the reason why. Fewer stubbed toes?) Now I wear shoes and socks as little as possible. I wear my Chacos as long as the weather permits.

50. I wish I were a good photographer.

51. I enjoy 80’s references. Jammin’ on the one.

52. I am afraid of heights. Even thinking about them makes my palms sweat and my stomach drop.

53. I have to take Valium to fly on an airplane. See #52.

54. I haven’t been able to have a “crazy” hairdo/hair color since 1995-ish due to jobs that I’ve had. I’m thinking of trying something fun this summer.

55. I love getting mail.

56. I am much more afraid of dying now that we have a child.

57. I ask for a sweater and a Border’s gift card every Christmas and am disappointed if I don’t get them.

58. I’ve worked at 4 different bookstores for approximately eight years combined.

59. I’m an expert at movie/pop trivia.

60. I often have to look at my high school yearbook to see who Fluke is talking about due to my poor memory of names.

61. I’m crafty/creative.

62. I’m a terrible bike rider and prefer sidewalks to streets.

63. I have never gone running besides the times in school when I was forced. I am the 12 minute mile freak that you laughed at.

64. I have this game that I play. When a movie comes on TV, I try and guess what it is before the title comes up. I am really good at it.

65. I have a wart on my left hand. I was always convinced it was a scar until the doctor pointed out that it was a wart. Gross.

67. I am thankful we live in a time when c-sections are possible. I’m positive Abby and I wouldn’t have done as well otherwise.

68. I think the healthcare system in the United States is a failure and a joke. We have spent so much money on doctor bills, even though we’ve always been insured. I often worry our health insurance will be compromised.

77. I’m kind to wait-staff and am a good tipper.

78. I can’t get organized. I just can’t.

79. I procrastinate.

80. I love new art supplies.

81. I camped out when the Utah Ikea opened. I’m currently having Ikea withdrawls.

82. I like playing video games. Lego Star Wars/Indiana Jones are my favorite.

83. I am afraid of spiders and make others kill them. I’m sure they will jump around the Kleenex coming at them and land on my hand and bite me.

84. My favorite part of going camping is the food.

85. I lived just outside of Washington, D.C. for two years. I think that it is one of the most depressing places to live. We lived across the street from The Pentagon.
Click here to see it on a map!
My apartment is marked as “A.” See The Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery to the north. I did very little sight seeing while living there. I would like to go back and visit but would never want to live there again.

86. I would love to write children’s books but I have no idea where to begin.

87. I wish someone would turn me in on the show What Not to Wear.

88. The first concert I went to was Duran Duran.

89. I’ve been to a taping of The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

91. I love cover songs, sometimes much more than the original.

92. I love celebrity gossip.

93. I think men with facial hair are the most attractive.

94. The most excited I’ve ever been was the morning that Abby was born.

95. I spent part of my honeymoon at Six Flags. It was awesome! It was also the sickest I’ve ever gotten on a ride. I don’t recommend The Boomerang.

96. I’m a pack rat.

97. I am grateful for what I have.

98. I am addicted to sugar.

99. I’ve had my car for 14 years. It is 18 years old. I’ve put over 110, 000 miles on it.

100. I’m lucky enough to be married to my best friend.
An OLD picture, but one of my favorites.

And now you know!

Oh my heck! I have so much to say that I don't know if it will let me write a comment this long.
#1 I currently have incredible guilt over the fact that I did not send thank-you cards out after my last b-day. I can't let it go.
#10 I have one particular event of inappropriate laughter at a funeral that still haunts me.
#18 I remember us watching the Real World and you saying that you would love to pick out the music that they play during the show. Whenever I watch it now, I always think of that.
#27 How could you not?
#28 I always thought this was way cool
#44 You taught me to do this and I still do it.
#45 I have had a miscarriage, but got pregnant with Jackson a couple of months later and know with all of my heart that he was supposed to be a part of our family.
#47 I have a 3rd grader who learned about apostrophes this year and I was no help to her.
#49 Someone in your family told me (it could have been you), that you were not allowed to walk around in bare feet because you might step on something like a needle. I always thought it was totally weird.
#59 Do you remember when you, me, Marie and Shirley (?) used to play Jeopardy during 8th grade art?
#68 You and me both
#85 I have no recollection of you living by Washington D.C.
#88 With me, correct? My first concert was the week before (Steve Miller Band)
This was a great list about you. I was thoroughly entertained.

Your right we have a ton in common now. You totally forgot #101 though, you are seriously cool. No really, I was always jealous you had so much more personality than me.
P.S. I heard Somebody's Watching Me the other day and thought of you.
