My stomach is turning at the fact that Abby could get sick at one of her well-baby appointments because someone else is not being responsible by vaccinating their children. As Heather from the link above and of dooce.com says,
"If you've decided that the risks are too great to vaccinate your child then you are counting on the rest of us who are willing to take those risks to decrease the chances that your child will be exposed to these diseases. You are counting on us."
The topic was also addressed in last night's Law and Order SVU.
Spoiler Alert...
In the episode, an 11 month-old baby became sick with the measles after coming in contact with a 4 year old non-vaccinated child who did not yet appear to be sick. In the episode, the 11 month old baby died because she was not yet old enough to be vaccinated against measles. Fluke and I were squeezing each other like we were watching a horror movie. That episode will be on USA on Sunday night if you want to watch it.
I remember seeing Jenny McCarthy talking about vaccinations on Oprah. She is convinced that her son became autistic after receiving a vaccination. Does anyone know someone this has happened to?
What are your feelings on this?

Holy Crap, Abby is adorable! I love to see babies signing.
I really dont know that much but here is what I do know and what I think...
I taught autistic kids for two years- several of them were "vaccination babies" so their parents say. I think you will agree with me that every baby and every person reacts differently to any medication. so yes, I believe that they may have had complications from the vaccines, or from any other thing that they expericened as a baby. People do love to point blame to all kinds of things. So like you said, do you not vaccine to save your kid from autism. I sure am not. and mostly I just node and be polite when I hear people talk about not vaccinate because of fear of autism. again, you said it. That is a pretty big risk too. Autism is huge- I swear after teaching autistic kids - I see so many traits I have that are autistic, I think we all do, Luckily we dont have enough to label us autistic- Autism will grow and grow and soon be the most diagnosed disability out there. Would love to hear others thoughts- I dont know it all!
I don't think vaccinations are for all children. The majority, but not all. I have friends that don't vaccinate, and they can site numerous articles that back up their point of view. I really don't know the right answer. I hope eventually all Dr's will screen our children before they receive all of their vaccinations to determine which children are at risk. I vaccinated my first two without giving it a whole lot of thought, but I struggled a bit more with Sadie, did more research, and wanted to be comfortable with my decision.
