Update on Fluke's Health

Fluke had gotten really sick at the end of August. He just felt really strange. Our family Doctor ran some tests and found his lipase levels were quite high. This indicated that he had pancreatitis.

We went to see his gastroenterologist. The doctor was concerned because there was no obvious cause for the pancreatitis. He ordered some more tests.
Fluke had a CAT scan of his abdomen and an endoscopy from his mouth down and from his stoma (in his abdomen) up. The endoscopy looked good but the CAT scan showed that the opening of his pancreas had gotten bigger over the last few years. This caused some concern.

Yesterday we went to LDS hospital in Salt Lake City where he had an endoscopic ultrasound. It was basically an ultrasound from the inside via his mouth. It showed his pancreas did look a bit inflamed (maybe from the pancreatitis) and also that he has a gallstone forming.

Gallstones can cause pancreatitis. The doctor said Fluke will probably have to have his gallbladder out. We'll know more after he talks to his Gastroenterologist next week.

I know that getting your gallbladder out is still a big deal but I think when the doctor was concerned about Fluke's pancreas we were both so worried about all the scary possibilities of what it could be. I think we have both been taking big sighs of relief all day.

And if you missed it on Facebook, here's something I posted yesterday:

Needless to say I was super excited when he came out with all of his parts still intact!
