Friday was my first official day of summer vacation but I did go in for a few hours. I also went in for a few hours on Saturday. Today was the first day I felt like I was on vacation. It is really weird that I won't be around those students anymore. They were so much fun. I adore teaching third grade.
For my first official summer vacation business, I dragged Fluke and Abby down to Riverdale so we could go to Babies R Us and Target. We didn't take any pictures of our trip so I created one to show you the exciting item we purchased.
I have found my calling, no?
As illustrated above, we picked up a couple of baby gates. Abby is nearly crawling and our house is built into the side of a hill and has a lot of stairs so the gates are a necessity. The mullet haircut sadly, we did not purchase and is only available in my imagination.
(I just showed this picture to Fluke and he said, "What does it mean?")
I know Fluke is super excited to install these gates. I overheard him and my mother talking about "studs" and "drills" and other technical baby gate jargon.
For all the crafty folks out there,
I am currently loving this site. Fluke showed me a similar quiet book that he and the kids in his family used to play with at church. I would love to make one for Abby.
More cute craftiness here and here.
And...you know that scene from A Christmas Story? "How do the little piggies go? That's right, oink, oink!" Abby is reenacting that scene below. Only this time, the piggy is replaced with a Tyrannosaurus Rex. I strongly advise that you TURN YOUR VOLUME DOWN. You have been warned.

OK, I have to say it. Kate is making quiet books and teaching Relief Society?! Where have I been the last 7 years? You are too rad. Seriously, you facsinate me!
I love your picture...maybe you should pursue a career in graphic design.
Of course, then you wouldn't have me around whining all the time. I'm not sure that's a sacrifice worth making.
Didn't your house have that fireman's pole in it? That would be a definite baby hazard.
I have friggin' nightmares about that fire pole. It is still here. There are no websites on baby-proofing your fire pole, sadly.
That picture of you and your daughter is a very special memento. Good job on that. Your blog never disappoints.
