Update on Fluke's health

Ug. Today we went back down to the doctors in SLC. We went to see Fluke's gasteroenterologist and colorectoral surgeon. These are two different doctors that have been working together to figure out why Fluke is constantly at a 5 out of 10 level of pain in his bum region. Today they told us that Fluke probably has Proctalgia Fugax and that he probably also has Chrones Disease not Ulcerative Colitis which is what he was diagnosed with about 10 years ago. We were told both of these things six months and TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET AGO. Grrr. The doctors pretty much told him they don't know what to do or how to help him. He is going to try a steroid treatment for a few days next week. Just to see what happens. After that he is going to try an anti-nausea medication because he throws up almost every day. No joke. I told the doctor that he isn't ever nauseous, he just will be walking along and have to turn his head and throw up. No joke. They didn't go "OH MY GOSH YOU THROW UP EVERY DAY SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE!!!" They just wrote a prescription for an anti-nausea medication. We are pretty discouraged at this point. Any ideas for what we should do next? We were given the name of a clinic in Clevland that specializes in Proctalgia Fugax but I'm thinking that is not something we can do in the near future.

Here are some photos of our day.

We drove behind these three plows the entire way through Sardine Canyon. That braniac in the truck drove between the back two plows. I was surprised they didn't plow him right off the road.

Here we are driving down and still in a good mood.

Yummi Pad Thai at Noodles and Company for lunch.

Our destination. It really is a nice hospital. The best part is that they have free vallet parking. It is nice to have one less thing to worry about when we go down to the doctor.

The room the put us in was the "plastic surgery room."

Here I am in front of the "before" wall. I shouldn't have smiled. They never smile in the before shot.

Then we met with the doctors and told them we couldn't afford the time or money if they couldn't give Fluke any answers.

My "not happy" face. I laughed when I saw this though because I have so many layers on it looks like I am wearing a parachute and getting ready to jump out of a plane.

Here we are at the famous Slim Olson's. This is the gas station just outside of SLC where everyone would stop for soda after concerts when we were in high school. I got a Cherry Coke for the first time in years. It reminded me of The Skatin' Station where I roller skated in fifth grade. Yum.

Pretty clouds.

Best part of our day was coming home to our cutie Abbylou.

She was super excited to stack all of her books on my lap.

And to have a bath. She loves her baths.

Oh and one last photo. This is a few weeks old. This was taken early in the morning. She made me laugh when I saw her because she totally had what I like to call "Utah Hair." There are lots of ladies that intentionally do their hair just like this in our town. On purpose.

First I can't stop laughing at the "Utah Hair" comment. Second, I don't even remember Slim Olsen's. Third, you look super cute in that before picture by the blue wall. And Fourth, that is terrible about Fluke. I am so sorry. I have a friend whose husband has Chrones disease and had problems that sound similar to Fluke's for years. Last year they moved to Nevada and she said in church last week that the reason she thinks they were supposed to move here was so he could get the help he needed. He is doing so much better now. I will ask her some more info. on his Dr's and let you know what she tells me.

What I would give to give you an answer. We all want Fluke to have a normal life. I guess he has you and Abby and that is normal for now, but one day, one day, he is going to be better. HE JUST HAS TO BE!

thanks for the pictures- Amy
